Getting YOUR BUTT Here!Let's get practical for just a minute. If you want to play and do... and play and see... and play and... in Gay Fort Lauderdale, YOU NEED TO GET HERE FIRST!!
As with everything, you have choices of types of transportation: Click on any of these to go directly to the way you want to get here! Personally I prefer a ride in a Jeep with the top off, seated beside a hunky bare-chested man who wears his jean cutoffs just a little too tight and short... but that's just me! |

Driving
Road Trip!!
Thanks to the wonderful State of Florida, we have a very good interstate system that will make your drive to Ft. Lauderdale less painful.
From the North:
Two main choices - I-95 and the Florida Turnpike. I -95 would be the best choice for those of you coming down from an east coast point of origin. The Turnpike is useful for anyone coming from Atlanta, New Orleans, Tallahassee or Orlando. Just note that the Turnpike is a toll road.
My favorite tip, for those of you driving from Philly, DC/Baltimore, Richmond, Charleston, Savannah or Jacksonville... take I-95 to Ft. Pierce, FL... There you can get right on the Turnpike which runs parallel to I-95 to Lauderdale. You avoid a lot of traffic and construction delays this way! Trust me on this one!
When you get to the Lauderdale exits, MOST of you will want to take the Sunrise Blvd. EAST exit. This will take you near Victoria Park, Wilton Manors and to the Beach. Get the exact directions from your guesthouse or hotel.
From the East:
You figure it out!
From the West:
Our west coast Floridian friends are best served by I-75. Just head south until you get to I-595. Take I-595 EAST to I-95 and head North a few exits to Sunrise Blvd East. Get the exact directions to your guesthouse or hotel from here.
From the South:
From Key West and all points south of Ft. Lauderdale -
Key West: US 1 North to the FL Turnpike at Florida City. Continue north to Sunrise Blvd East. Follow your guesthouse directions from there.
Miami: I-95 probably makes the most sense unless you live near the Turnpike or want a long but scenic route along the beaches. But I bet most you can figure out how to get here from there!
Go to our Getting Around page for help to... get around Ft. Lauderdale once you've arrived!
Train
Travel by train can be fun, especially if on a budget or if you are an International visitor. AMTRAK is the national rail service provider so check out their website for all shedules and ticketing information.
And yes, the train will bring you right into downtown Ft. Lauderdale, past Flomingo's, Mona's, The Cubby Hole and my bedroom window.
